UVA (United Visual Artists) is a London-based practice founded in 2003 by British artist Matt Clark (b.1974) with Ash Nehru and Chris Bird. UVA’s broad body of work encompasses wall-based artwork, sculpture, site-specific installations and performative projects. The practice has an open and inclusive approach to collaboration. While Clark leads the UVA team and is essentially its primary creator, the plural use of the word Artist in its designation refers to the many collaborators with whom Clark works. The ethos for UVA is to create work that can transcend the physical and question the relativity of an audience's experience. UVA has been commissioned worldwide by institutions including the Barbican Curve gallery, Manchester International Festival, Royal Academy, Serpentine Galleries, The Wellcome Trust, Towner Gallery, Victoria & Albert Museum, YCAM, Japan. It has also had pieces acquired by the collections of the Fondation Cartier, France and MONA, Australia. UVA's work has been included in exhibitions with Blain|Southern and Riflemaker in the UK, as well as Bryce Wolkowitz in the US, the Seoul Museum of Art in Korea and the Power Station of Art in Shanghai. Permanent works are sited internationally in Toronto, Dubai, Philadelphia and London. In terms of collaborations, the practice has worked with artists like choreographer Benjamin Millepied and the Paris Opéra Ballet, filmmaker Adam Curtis and musicians Massive Attack, Battles and James Blake. Most recently UVA has collaborated with Christoper Bailey for his last fashion runway show at Burberry.
