Thorbjørn Lausten´s (1948) oeuvre is placed at the junctures of art, science and technology. Since his debut in 1960, he has dedicated his artistic work to give form to philosophical concepts and invisible science phenomena that are fundamental to our existence and understanding. Lausten´s art is not only an aesthetic matter. It is in line with science, a fully fledged tool for understanding and producing knowledge about reality. This is especially clear in his work on data visualisation, which is a method to visualise large amounts of data. These works span from the early 1990s until today and are developed in cooperation with scientists and technicians based on exact measurements of phenomena such as radiation, weather or geomagnetism. Making the intangible visuel is also an important focal point in Thorbjørn Lausten´s light art, which often takes place in a field between the subjectively perceived and objectively measurable.
