Self-Titled brings together for the first time Yürükoğlu’s site specific installation, photography and video work. The work comes from an ongoing body of work made both in the artist’s studio and in the Icelandic landscape. Drawing connections between contemporary culture and the natural landscape, Yürükoğlu uses the contrast of the artificial and natural to bring attention to the tensions that arise in a society of mass consumption and the effects it has on the landscape.
In the site specific installation with video, Primordial Future, Yürükoğlu transforms the gallery into an experiential space of light and color. Inspired by the midnight sun of Iceland, Yürükoğlu constructs and photographs what she calls Neoscapes (still lifes using perspex) in the studio, and then projects these images as a video in the gallery on top of the installation.
