Developed by Raimund Kummer in the late 1970s, the survey of public, urban space with regard to its own sculptural qualities represents within Germany a step towards a fundamentally different and novel understanding of sculptural work virtually unrivalled nowadays in terms of its radical nature. In parallel with his sculptural work, Kummer has time and again sounded out the new possibilities of the medium of photography. As a “photographic sculptor“, Kummer is also always very much the installation artist, for the simulation of reality, authenticity and objectivity, the deliberate game of deception with real and virtual space, with image and boundary, are essential stimuli of his artistic work. The present artist´s book has been developed as a sort of glossary whose core is formed by 16 concepts central to the work of the artist: anonymity, studio, self-portrait, stage, sound, body, light, material, model, narration, nature, seeing, mirror, strategy, transformation, time. The authors continue coming to grips with these concepts on the pictorial level through Raimund Kummer´s specially developed grouping of his works around these concepts.
