‘transition’ is an installation staged by light and laser artist li hui. it features a car wreck salvaged by the artist and illuminated with over 13000 laser lights mounted on the museum’s ceiling. the heat released from the laser lights brings about a rising fog that envelopes the surrounding space. in doing this, hui visualizes two polarizing emotions into one imagery.
‘the idea of transforming something negative into something positive is deeply rooted in chinese philosophy. maybe I brought it over into this work unconsciously‘ -LH
buddhism plays a crucial role for the artist – especially the meaning of metempsychosis, which is expressed by the ascending fog.
